Excerpt from Mack Staples Portfolio Redesign
Overview
The personal portfolio website of Mackenna (Mack) Staples has been online since January of 2007 and is serving as a place for him to post articles and websites as they relate to his major which he is studying for at his university, University of Advancing Technology (UAT). Thus far, the website has not played a key role in his portfolio but more a testing grounds for the code that he is working on as well as the various club activities he participates in. The goal of the current website, then, is to show what Mack is currently participating in at school and what work he has accomplished.
With Mack’s last quarter at school quickly approaching he is requesting a new design to the portfolio so that potential employers could look at the website and look at his work with ease. Mack has realized a need for a new look beyond the simplistic HTML with no real style to the website. Coming at it from a programming perspective, Mack concedes that the website needs to be more aesthetically pleasing to the eyes of potential visitors with room for expansion.
With this website re-design, Mack hopes to have a consistent look and feel to his website where users can click through the various links with easier information architecture; downloadable PDF documentation of his works and his resume; a photo gallery page to show off his passion for photography; and finally a blog for him to keep his visitors informed on his life and thoughts on the relevant matters to his field of study.
Statement of Purpose
The purpose of Mack’s portfolio website is to display the work he has done in the education at UAT to show his fellow programmers and potential employers his work. Although Mack is getting his degree in Network Security, he hopes on his website to expand beyond his degree and encompass more his programming and security expertise as well as bring some of his personal interests into play for users to get to know him better.
The overall goal of the website is, again, to have a place for him to present his work that he has done at school (and outside) and encourage user input about coding or articles of interest as they pertain to the programming world or even current relevant world issues.
Overall, Mack states that the purpose of his website is:
